Only those
who have tried making cards by hand know how much work goes into it before the
product is finished. The techniques commonly used in making such cards include
embossing, embellishing, stamping, inking, painting, drawing and gluing just to
name a few; and each card reflects the crafters creativity and passion for
aesthetics and originality. Thus, card making could very well be equated to the
work done by designers in the fashion world, only that a card is meant to be read
and not worn.
So, does picking
handmade cards over the generic types come with any benefit? It certainly
does.
First, it provides you with a chance to convey
your own message to the receiver.
Just about each one of us has at one time or
another gone to the shops to get a card only to find one with a beautiful design,
yet a very inappropriate message. At such times, we often settle for something
whose design we do not like as much, but whose message we feel would be more
fitting. With handmade cards however, you do not have to make such compromises as
you can either order for one with a personalized message, or get a blank one
and write whatever you want yourself.
Besides, the
cards you get on supermarket shelves and other stores always have a similar
texture and feel –nothing special. This explains why the recipients will in
most cases just throw away such cards a day or two later. However, a handmade
card has that unique aspect that makes it appealing not just to the person
who makes it, but also to the buyer and the final recipient as well. If you give
someone a card with their name imprinted on it, they will feel that some
thought was put into it, and this will make them want to hold onto it longer.
Hence, if
you cherish a contemporary lifestyle and would rather keep away from the one
size for all culture, you will definitely get more from a handmade card than
you will from a mass produced one. This may seem like a biased view but the
truth is, like any other handmade items, handmade cards deserve a lot more
credit than they get.
