Making a
nice handmade card isn’t difficult; you only need to plan on what you want to
create, put your supplies together, and then get crafting. Before you start working
on the piece however, you need to think about a number of things.
1. Your
craft skills- Even if you have never done a handmade card before, you may be
good at knitting, quilting, quilling, or making origami hearts and flowers. Such
skills can be very useful when it comes to card making as you can create different
objects separately, and then use those items as decorations for your card.
2. The interests
of the recipient-When you are making someone a card, you need to think about
their tastes and what they like rather than what you want. For instance, if the
person loves the colour pink, you can go ahead and make them a pink card with
matching embellishments. A girl who loves ribbon and bows will also appreciate
if they receive a handmade card with such features.
If you are
not sure about what the recipient may want ,you can think about something nice
they may have mentioned to you about a particular
outfit, furniture, curtains or an art object and then borrow a pattern or colour
from those and use it in your card.
3. Available
supplies-Availability of materials is yet another issue that you have to take
into account before you make your card. If you have a design in mind, or have
seen an idea that you would want to incorporate, you must get supplies to be
able to create it. If you have been crafting handmade cards already, you may only
need to look through your existing supplies and you will find items that will go
well together.
4.
Time-once you have gathered all you need, the last thing you want is to make
your card in a hurry, ruin it, and then be forced to redo it. You need to start
on the project only when you can work without interruptions. You also need to
do things at your pace. Keep in mind, making a handmade card is art; it is the little
things you put together that will determine how well or not your card comes out.
After you
have created your card, you can add a personalised message using a printer, or
with coloured pens. Just make sure that whatever you apply blends with the
theme. With the message included, your card is now ready, and you can pass it
on to that special person.
